HARBOUR ISLAND

Can I Fly to North Eleuthera with Silver Airways?

Silver Airways to Eleuthera no longer available

Unfortunately, if you are planning travel to North Eleuthera, Silver Airways is no longer an option for reaching this beautiful Bahamian destination. Silver Airways to Eleuthera service ended after the airline filed for bankruptcy in late 2024, which stopped what was once a popular route connecting Fort Lauderdale to the island. The regional carrier operated flights across Florida and to several Caribbean destinations, including the Bahamas, but it struggled for years with ongoing operational problems.

During its final years, the airline faced constant delays, technical issues with its aging turboprop fleet, and growing customer complaints about reliability and service quality. These problems affected the travel experience and made scheduling less predictable for passengers heading to Eleuthera and Harbour Island.

New airlines filled the gap after the closure

When Silver Airways stopped operating, the gap in service to travel to North Eleuthera did not last long. Other airlines quickly expanded their flight options to meet demand from travelers visiting Harbour Island and Eleuthera. Bahamas Air, the national airline of the Bahamas, increased its flight frequency from Nassau to North Eleuthera, creating more connection choices for international visitors.

At the same time, smaller carriers stepped in and strengthened their presence. Aztec Airways and Tradewind Aviation increased their scheduled flights from South Florida airports, offering direct service that once competed with Silver Airways to Eleuthera routes. Aztec now runs daily flights from Fort Lauderdale, while Tradewind provides premium turboprop service from Fort Lauderdale and Stuart, Florida.

Will Silver Airways return

As for whether Silver Airways might return, the situation remains uncertain and the chances appear low at this time. There have been early discussions about possible interest from buyers, but no confirmed purchase agreements have been announced. Aviation analysts remain doubtful about a return because of the conditions surrounding the bankruptcy.

The airline’s assets, including aircraft leases and airport gate slots, are currently being liquidated through bankruptcy proceedings. Any group interested in restarting the brand would need to rebuild operations from the ground up, which makes a comeback unlikely in the near future.

Current flight options to North Eleuthera

For travelers looking for flights to North Eleuthera today, several reliable options remain available. American Airlines offers service from Miami, Bahamas Air continues to operate from Nassau, and both Aztec Airways and Tradewind Aviation now run expanded schedules from South Florida. These alternatives often provide more consistent service than what Silver Airways delivered during its final years.
